Sports Break ~ Australian Open [Updated]

Wow, so far so good, Maria and Martina is in the last eight. Its been a surprise for Martina to go this far but I had some gut feeling that she came prepared otherwise she wouldn't have commit herself to such a big tournament. Good for Martina, a wildcard entry and she will face Kim Clijsters. I wonder if she can beat Kim, afterall, Clijster is quite the player. Here's hope.

Qtr Finals Match Ups:

1. (1) Lindsay Davenport (USA) v (8) J Henin-Hardenne (Bel) ~ Davenport to win, she's got lots of fight left and still a top player. [edit @ 10pm] Davenport lost!

2. (4) Maria Sharapova (Rus) v (6) Nadia Petrova (Rus) ~ Maria, hands down, no doubt. [edit] Maria won! Can she take on Henin and win? YES, bring it on!

3. (7) Patty Schnyder (Swi) v (3) Amelie Mauresmo (Fra) ~ Mauresmo, maybe, she is strong. [edit @ 2.40pm, 25/1] Mauresmo wins! Power play win 6-3, 6-0. I think Mauresmo will win over Kim.

4. Martina Hingis (Swi) v (2) Kim Clijsters (Bel) ~ Martina of course, can she make it and create the biggest upset in recent tennis history since Maria won her first grand slam? [edit @ 4.20pm] Kim wins! Kinda expected the result to go Kim's way BUT 3-6, 6-3, 4-6 says that Martina have still got what it takes to win and over come top players. Martina main approach is to use skills and play strategy to even out the power plays on the younger players. She needs to work at it but I think it is not a problem. Martina made it so far being unseeded is impressive for her first tournament. Cheers for Martina!
