Plug your music media into your VW

September 12, 2005

Wolfsburg, Germany – Volkswagen's world premieres of the Eos coupé/cabriolet and the R32 - the most powerful production Golf yet – at the Frankfurt auto show will include a new universal USB connection to connect to storage media such as sticks and players.

This will enable motorists to carry several thousand music tracks to play through the cars' sound systems. VW will be the first carmaker to offer this feature over a broad product range. It will start with the Golf, Golf Plus and Touran; next year USB connections will be available in other models. (Motoring.co.za)

We are begining to see a phenomenon called media convergence. First you've the merging of the computer with TV and the internet with mobile phones followed by the games console. Now, the car audio system is in this convergence circle. Is this the begining of the demise of CDs? Maybe not, CDs can still play a supporting role to MP3 in this new field.
